About Stephen

Stephen Houser was born in Oklahoma City. He became fascinated with photography at an early age and began working as a photographer for The Edmond Sun at age 16. During high school he also worked for the school newspaper The Ruff Draft and was constantly experimenting in the darkroom.

Inspired by Earnest Hemmingway, Houser moved to Spain at age 19 to study Spanish in Santiago De Compostela. After spending one year at the University of Santiago de Compostela in the province of Galicia, Houser returned with a portfolio of images that caused others to take notice. He was referred to Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, California where he studied photojournalism and became a surfing and skydiving enthusiast.

Upon graduation from Brooks Institute of Photography, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where he has been a photographer for the non-profit organization, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation.

Houser’s work has been published worldwide, and was recently used in a PBS documentary, Jimmy Carter: The Life a House Built.

Still working out of his new home, New Orleans, Houser is available for every type of photographic work including weddings, special events, editorial illustration, corporate reports, and more.
